Freight train launched to link Istanbul with Tehran, Islamabad

The third ITI train having products from Pakistan has arrived in Turkey, in this journey train meets the heavy snowfall but completes its path resumption of service for the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) cargo train, which had been inactive for about a decade.


Upcoming Wednesday, the train will arrive at its destination. Severe weather conditions, according to officials, prompted pauses during the journey, which started on January 23 in Islamabad.



Two more multinational cargo trains will depart from the Aza Khel dry port, about 153 kilometers from Islamabad, for Istanbul in the next ten days, most likely on February 21, according to officials of Pak Railways


“The third loaded train carrying high-value items, as demanded by Turkey, has also entered in Turkey and will reach Istanbul by Wednesday,” stated an officeholder in charge of ITI operations when contacted by well-known media partner Dawn on Saturday.

“The cargo train departed through Pakistan’s Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Spenzand, Sibi, Nushki, Taftan, and Iran’s Zahedan and Tehran,” he explained.

ITI freight train will be operated regularly on every Tuesday. The freight train had nine wagons initially, said an official of the railway.
